Malvar sightings

My last name is a source of pride. I am quite fortunate to have descended from the brave and gallant general who defied both the Spanish and American conquerors. It's not unusual for me to encounter schools or streets named after my illustrious great-grandfather. But apparently, it has not been limited to that. Pati pension house at Karaoke joints na rin.

Midnight conversations

ring. ring. ring.

I answered on the fourth ring. I think.

Gab (das me): Hel-lo.

Ate Lizette: Tulog ka na ba? Ay, anong oras na diyan?

Gab: Paaaast twelve naaa  yataaaa.

Ate Lizette: Ahh. Kakatapos ko lang manood ng Batman. Ang galing!! Manood ka ha.

Gab: Hokeeyyyyy. 

OK rin kapatid ko. Tumawag pa ng Australia mula Manila para lang mang-iingit. Ni hindi na naghintay ng umaga. After that, I couldn't sleep anymore. And I had an early morning meeting the next day. Pakingshet.

Hindi lang ako manonood ng batman, bibili pa ako ng vinyl statue!! I have already called a moratorium on the acquisition of figures and toys. In the past four years, I've made only one purchase -- a Medicom Wolverine. It seems like another exception will have to be made. Ang ganda ng Koto Batman!!

Para naman di malungkot si Wolverine. 

Crying ladies and gentlemen

The groom was in tears. No, actually he was bawling. (Hankies, don't fail him now). The bridesmaids were all falling apart, their make-up almost smeared. The bride's mother was weeping too. I thought I saw her shoulders heaving as she made her way to the altar.

Then finally, the bride, the star of the afternoon, emerged and initiated her march to rendezvous with destiny. She was sobbing uncontrollably. Her veil appeared to be like fine fishnets just drawn out of water.

(Maybe they were shown the bill of the festivities and ceremony a tad too soon.)

That was it. It caught on like bird-flu. That started the crying frenzy which pretty much involved everyone -- from the sponsors to the hataks that never knew the bride from Eve, but willingly tagged along for the free food.

I stood there watching the whole spectacle with an amused grin. But I wasn't sure of what I felt.

Medyo pusong mamon ba yung mga tao (bride, groom, immediate family and close friends excepted)? O may diperensiya ba ako at hindi ako maka-emote?

hmmmmmmm. Ah, ewan. 

I love wearing suits though. Pa-minsan minsan naman, hindi ako mukhang dukha.

The world is my garden

I had an early call with the Australian office. Walang kotse. Ayaw ko gumising ng maaga para tumuloy ng Makati. Ayaw ko ring makipagsiksikan sa MRT. Kailangan ko ng high speed connection.

The solution - Magtrabaho sa bahay nina Tito Mike and Tita Annie!!

Nothing like working on the balcony with incredible views of Marikina and Laguna. My cousin Miguel was just liberal with the camera while I slaved away on my laptop.

For lunch, pinakain pa ako ng grilled prawns and hainanese chicken.

Kyo-to, binaliktad na To-kyo

Kyoto is one of my favorite cities in the world. Whenever Lost in Translation is shown on cable, I wait for the part where Scarlett's character meanders about in Kyomizudera, Heian shrine and in the other noted landmarks in the ancient capital. I've been fortunate enough to have visited Kyoto numerous times but stupid enough to have failed to bring a camera. Hahahaha. Loser.

Anyway, the few photos I have, naki-pose at naki-siksik lang ako. tsk tsk tsk. Sabit. Better than nothing. Thank God for ex-officemates.
